The driver who ran a stop sign and caused a wreck that killed an Aiken woman and critically injured her husband Saturday was drunk, authorities said.
Earlier today, 48-year-old William Currie of Aiken was booked into the Aiken County Jail on charges of felony DUI with death and felony DUI with great bodily injury.
Currie is blamed for running a stop sign at Reynolds Pond and Pipeline roads and hitting a vehicle carrying an Aiken couple. The collision caused Chris Mock’s vehicle to run off the road and into a tree.
Authorities say 43-year-old Stacia Mock, a passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene and her husband Chris, the driver, was critically injured. Stacia Mock was wearing her seat belt, Coroner Tim Carlton said.
Sadly, family members were following the Mock’s vehicle and witnessed the crash, the coroner said.
