An Augusta mom was charged today with leaving her 2-year-old son at home alone.
Her excuse: She had some movies to return, according to a sheriff’s report says.
Tewana Square, 34, of East Telfair Street, was charged with one count of deprivation of a minor.
A neighbor at River Glen Apartments called police about 12:30 a.m. today after hearing the 2-year-old boy crying inside an apartment. A deputy arrived, heard the boy crying inside and couldn’t get anyone to answer the door. He couldn’t get anyone with the apartment complex to come unlock the door, so the officer forced his way inside and found the boy crying on a couch. No one else was inside the home, a report says.
The deputy called the Department of Family and Children Services and then walked outside, where he found the mother returning home.
“The subject stated that she had left the child alone because she had to return some movies,” a report says.
DFCS officials took custody of the child and later released him to his father in Hephzibah. Square was arrested and is currently being held in jail under a $6,800 bond.
