An Augusta barber was charged Saturday with reckless conduct for allegedly chasing a teenager and shooting at him.
But the barber claims he was justified because the teen was trying to rob him, according to a Richmond County sheriff’s report.
Kwame Bryant, 35, claims the teen came to Takeover Barber Shop on Peach Orchard Road at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, asked how much a haircut was and then started grabbing around his waist like he had a gun. “(The teen) told the subject to give him the money but (Bryant) never saw the victim with a gun,” a sheriff’s report says.
Bryant reacted by running after the teen in the parking lot and shooting at him one time, damaging another man’s vehicle with a bullet, the report says. No one was hurt.
The teen tells a different story. He claims he was just trying to get a haircut at the shop when Bryant said he was closed and then suddenly pulled a .40-caliber handgun and chased him.
It was not clear if authorities believe the teen’s story, but they arrested the barber for shooting his gun, taking him to jail on one count of reckless conduct. He was released after posting $1,300 bond.
