Columbia County authorities seized over 18 pounds of drugs from a couple traveling through the area Tuesday along the interstate.
Based on a tip, authorities stopped a 2008 Honda Odyssey and hit the jackpot when it comes to drug busts:
- 13 pounds of cocaine
- 5.5 pounds of heroin
- $2,726 in cash
The estimated street value of the narcotics is over $800,00, according to sheriff’s Maj. Steve Morris.
Maria Elena Alonzo, 31, and Jose Luis Marin-Dominguez, 33, were each charged with trafficking cocaine and trafficking heroin. Both have a current address of Mullins, S.C., where they were working at a liquor store.
Authorities have contacted ICE about the legal status of Marin-Dominguez, who has a tattoo that says “Viva Mexico.”
Meanwhile, both are being held without bond at the Columbia County Jail, a press release says.
