Bicyclist Killed in Augusta; Driver Not Charged

-

The driver who struck and killed bicyclist Robert Holden Jr. Friday morning was not at fault in the accident, a sheriff’s report says.

Holden, 33 (pictured here), was bicycling on Peach Orchard Road around 1 a.m. Friday when he was struck by a 1999 Oldsmoble Silhouette driven by Edward Farrow of Hephzibah.

According to a report, Holden was riding his bicycle in the middle of the right lane and “failed to ride on the right side of the highway,” had no lights on his bicycle and only a small one-inch rear reflector.

Farrow did not see Holden until it was too late and was unable to stop before the front of his vehicle struck the rear of Holden’s bicycle, a report says.

Holden rolled up on the front of the vehicle, striking the left side of the windshield and came to rest in the southbound center lane. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
