Drunk Pedestrian Blamed in Gordon Highway Wreck

-

An intoxicated North Augusta man was blamed in an accident Tuesday night in which he was struck while walking on the Gordon Highway bridge in Augusta near the state line, authorities said.

Dario Martin Caceres, 32 (shown here in a previous mugshot) was standing in the middle of Gordon Highway when he was struck by a Chevrolet Impala.

“The driver of the Impala related that she failed to see the pedestrian in time as she applied her brakes in an attempt to avoid striking Caceres,” sheriff’s Sgt. Michael McDaniel Sr. said in a press release. “The front of the Chevrolet Impala struck Caceres.”

Caceres was taken to the emergency room at GRU Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, Sgt. McDaniel said.

Caceres has been issued two citations in the traffic accident, including (1) Pedestrian must walk along the Shoulder of the roadway and (2) Pedestrian under the influence of Alcohol.
