Fort Gordon Soldier Demoted & Sent to Jail for Child Porn

-

A Fort Gordon soldier has been sentenced to 12 months in jail after being caught with child pornography, authorities said.

Joel Willis, 24, was booked Wednesday into the Aiken County Detention Center pending a move to a military discipline facility, according to spokeswoman Kathleen Haskell with the Dwight D. Eisenhower Medical Center on Fort Gordon.

Willis was found to be in possession of pornographic images of minors and was brought before a military tribunal, which found him guilty. The soldier was given a bad conduct discharge, reduced in rank to E-1 and ordered to spend a year in a military discipline facility, Haskell said.

Willis was a soldier under the A-company of Dwight D. Eisenhower Medical Center, near Augusta. A Facebook page for the soldier says he studied nursing at a community college and joined the Army three years ago. He said he was working in patient administration.

“I do injured patients medical records and inprocess them and outprocess them,” Willis wrote in a Facebook post.

He is originally from Washington, D.C., according to his Facebook page.
