A homeless man who robbed an Augusta convenience store last night was caught after running right in front of the police station!
Kenneth Lavone Kirkland used the threat of a knife to rob the BP on Jones Street in Augusta, authorities said. Employees followed him up to Broad Street to 13th Street but stopped at the bridge crossing over the Savannah River, according to Richmond County Sheriff’s Lt. Blaise Dresser said.
Once in North Augusta, Kirkland made a right turn on East Buena Vista Avenue and was caught right in front of the North Augusta Department of Public Safety.
“He’s not the smartest person in the world,” Lt. Dresser said.
Kirkland, shown here in a previous mugshot, is being held in Aiken County pending extradition to Richmond County for armed robbery.
