2 Teens Arrested in Stolen Car Chase; 3rd Suspect in Hospital

-

Two teens have been charged in Thursday’s stolen car chase with Aiken County authorities and a third will be charged once he’s release from the hospital, authorities said.

Aiken County Sheriff’s Investigators have obtained warrants for Kartel Smith (left) and Marqual Simpkins (right), both 17-year-old Aiken residents. Roderick Glover, 18, of Warrenville, remains in the hospital and will be charged with possession of a stolen vehicle upon his release.

These suspects were identified after they were taken to an area hospital for treatment after a traffic collision that occurred on Langley Dam Road, around 3:20 a.m. Thursday.

The collision occurred after a short vehicle pursuit with Aiken County deputies who responded to the Crystal Peak Road area for a suspicious person and vehicle call. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the suspect vehicle, an Acura SUV had been stolen in Aiken.

Simpkins was captured on the 400 block of Hampton Ave NW in Aiken around 2:46 pm Thursday and taken to the Aiken County Detention Center. Smith was taken into custody by Richmond County Sheriff’s Office shortly after being released from the hospital. Smith is being held in the Richmond County Detention Center pending extradition.

Glover remains in the hospital due to the injuries that he sustained from the collision and is in stable condition. He will be arrested upon his release from the hospital.
