Two Augusta men have been charged in the overnight shootings at a Broad Street nightclub that left four people with gunshot wounds to the feet.

Kameron Jones, 24, and Bertram Owens Jr., 32, were charged in connection with the shootings. Owens is a convicted felon with a long rap sheet.

Gunfire erupted around 2:05 a.m. Friday at Sumyung Ho Night Club on Broad Street and deputies arrived to find four victims with injuries that were not life threatening. All ended up at the hospital.

A sheriff’s press release describes the victims and injuries: “The first victim was Jerome Stroud who was the club’s Security Guard and was shot in the left foot. The second victim was Larry Latham who was struck in the left foot. The third victim was Trudale Foster who was grazed on the right foot and right thigh and the fourth victim was Jamal Lee who was struck in the right foot. All victims were transported to the hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.”

Owens is a convicted felon with three trips to prison since 2010, including sentences for cocaine possession, terroristic threats & acts, theft and possession of a firearm by convicted felon. He never served a complete sentence before being released.

For his part, Jones has a pending felony marijuana possession charge from 2020 as well as previous arrests for fleeing police, reckless driving and other traffic offenses.

Both subjects were charged with aggravated assault and Owens was charged additionally with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The sheriff’s office did not discuss a possible motive.

A Facebook page for the club describes it this way: “We are a new nightclub Downtown Augusta and we are catering to the more mature crowd.”

A person answering the phone at the club referred questions to the owner, who did not return a phone message Friday afternoon.
