Richmond County authorities seized five guns and over six pounds of a Fentanyl-and-meth mix on Thursday from a search warrant, arresting two people.
Michael Henderson, 30, and Lakeara Sinkfield, 33, both of Augusta, were both charged with trafficking meth.
The drug seizure began with a traffic stop, which yielded a search warrant for Sinkfield’s residence on the 1400 block of Ridgewood Drive. “From the search warrant, officers and investigators were able to recover 5 guns and 6.71 pounds of Fentanyl and Methamphetamine mixture,” sheriff’s Sgt. William McCarty said in a press release.
The arrests are a “step toward trying to reduce the number of Fentanyl and other related drug overdoses in Richmond County and in the CSRA,” the sergeant said.
“There has been a nationwide crisis of drug overdoses that have surged even more as of late. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is continually working to try to rid these and other drugs off of our streets, to make this a safer county for the citizens and visitors of Richmond County and the CSRA,” he said in the press release. “The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office also continues to focus on getting illegal guns off the streets.”
In addition to meth trafficking, Henderson was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, weapon possession, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, a grand jury arrest warrant, and a warrant for other authorities.
