Aiken police have turned over Tuesday night’s deadly encounter with a domestic violence suspect to SLED for investigation.

He was identified as 48-year-old Michael Straub.

Here is Wednesday afternoon’s press release from the Aiken Department of Public Safety.

“At approximately 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening April 7, 2020, patrol officers from the Aiken Department of Public Safety responded to the 900 block of Magnolia Street SE for a domestic disturbance.

Officers were unable to make contact with a male subject who had barricaded himself inside the residence and was believed to be armed. Throughout the evening and early morning hours’ officers attempted to make contact with the subject.

During the incident a single gunshot was heard emanating from the residence. Officers made entry into the residence and discovered a deceased male inside the residence.
