Aiken Car Thieves Wreck Into Tree During Chase; 3 Hurt

Aiken County Sheriff’s Deputies were involved in an early morning vehicle pursuit of a stolen vehicle Thursday that ended in a traffic collision.

After receiving notification of a 911 call around 3:20 am, deputies were dispatched to the area of Crystal Peak Road in Graniteville for a suspicious person being followed by a vehicle in the area. The witness described the suspect as a Black male dressed in all black being followed by a white SUV, a press release says.

When deputies got to the area, they spotted the suspect vehicle which fled driving onto Sudlow Lake Road at a high rate of speed. The deputies pursued the suspect vehicle on Sudlow Lake Road to Langley Dam Road where the suspect vehicle collided with a tree.

Aiken County EMS, Langley Fire Department and SC Highway Patrol were summoned to the scene. There were three suspects extricated from the vehicle, who were responsive, and transported to an area hospital for treatment. Their current condition is unknown.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the suspect vehicle, an Acura SUV had been stolen out of Aiken Department of Public Safety jurisdiction. Currently, deputies are investigating several car break-ins in the Crystal Peak Road area.

The suspect’s identities are being withheld pending the development of this investigation, authorities said. This is a developing investigation and information will be release as it becomes available, the press release says.
