Aiken County Deputies Find Young Man in Girl’s Closet with Weed & Date Rape Drug

-

Aiken County deputies found a 20-year-old man hiding in the closet of a 15-year-old girl Friday in Graniteville.

Matthew Smith, 20, is accused of sneaking into the girl’s house with her help the day before and having sex with her while providing her with marijuana, meth and GHB, a date rape drug.

The girl’s stepfather smelled marijuana coming from her room and called the sheriff’s office Friday afternoon to help him locate the source of the smell. Officers came inside and found Smith hiding in the corner of her closet. At his feet, officers found an apple with marijuana inside of it, a pink bag with a glass pipe inside and a travel-size Listerine bottle containing GHB.

Smith told officers that the girl had snuck him into her house on Thursday. The girl said she got two apple juice drinks, and Smith put a couple drops of the date rape drug in each glass. She said they had sex with him and then fell asleep. On Friday, they “smoked some meth together and started smoking marijuana before deputies arrived,” a sheriff’s report says.

The girl’s mother told deputies she wanted Smith prosecuted for sexual assault.

Smith, who has a listed address of Monroe Street in Grovetown, was arrested for criminal sexual conduct with a minor, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, marijuana possession and possession of a Schedule II narcotic. He is being held in the Aiken County Detention Center.
