Aiken County Man Dies from Critical Injuries in Week-Old Wreck

-

An Aiken County man died Sunday from injuries suffered the weekend before in a wreck on Old Barnwell Road.

Wade Sweat III, 42, of Windsor, sustained critical injuries on the morning of June 2 on the 1400 block of Old Barnwell Road near Stillwater Road. He was the driver of a 1994 Chevrolet truck traveling north on Old Barnwell Road when the vehicle wrecked. The vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway, over corrected, traveled off the right side of the roadway, overturned and then struck a fence, according to Coroner Darryl Ables.

Paramedics rushed Sweat to Wellstar MCG Health where he succumbed to his injuries at 5:45 p.m. Sunday, Ables said. The Coroner’s Office along with S.C. Highway Patrol are continuing with the investigation.

Sweat is being remembered online by friends and family. Danni Curr said she could not put into words how much she already missed him.

“You held on as long as you could,” Curr said. “The day of your accident was one of the worse days I have had. I walked up to your truck and saw you my heart stopped. Mine and your relationship was different then everyone else’s. We were best friend. … I’m going to take care of your sister. Please watch over us!  this life isn’t going to be the same without you in it.”
