Aiken Man Identified as Driver Killed in Fiery Crash from the Weekend

-

The driver who died in a fiery crash Sunday has been identified as an Aiken man.

Anthony F. Meunier, 22, was killed following a single motor vehicle crash Sunday on Coleman Bridge Road near Quattlebaum Road in Aiken County, Coroner Darryl Ables said in a press release. Meunier died from blunt force trauma. Toxicology analysis is pending, the coroner said.

Meunier was driving a 2022 Audi Q3 SUV east on Coleman Bridge Road at 6:15 pm Sunday when he ran off the left side of the road, struck a culvert, overturned and then hit a utility pole, Ables said. The vehicle then caught fire.

The driver of the vehicle was the only occupant and was pronounced dead on scene. Due to thermal injuries, the driver was not immediately identified. He was autopsied Tuesday to determine the cause of death and positive identification.

Meunier was remembered online Thursday morning by his family with this message: “We have received literally over 1000 kind and supportive message following Anthony’s departure. My son was the most loved person ever. People that I did not know would hug me at the grocery store and cried with me thinking of Anthony.”

A service is planned at 12 Noon Saturday at St. Mary’s Help of Christians in Aiken.
