Aiken Man Sought for September Murder During Robbery Attempt

-

Aiken Public Safety investigators have arrested 22 year-old Sabastyen Miles Greene for the Sept. 18 shooting death of William Lee Mathis Jr.

Greene is charged with murder and weapon possession. He allegedly approached the 42-year-old victim at Columbia Avenue at Chesterfield Street while pointing a firearm and attempted to rob him, an arrest warrant says.

At one point during the altercation, the defendant fired a single shot, striking the victim in his chest. The victim was later pronounced deceased at the Aiken Regional Medical Center.

Greene surrendered Friday afternoon just hours after Aiken authorities put out a press release announcing him as the suspect. He’s being held in the Aiken County Detention Center.
