Skilyer Hicks on America's Got TalentSkilyer Hicks, a local singer who appeared on America’s Got Talent in 2013, was arrested last week after an alcohol-fueled assault on her relatives in Evans.

Hicks, 18, allegedly snuck out of her grandmother’s Evans home at 11:30 p.m. Monday and was brought back three hours later by an unknown male. She was passed-out drunk, her grandmother Paula Rae Harrington said. The teen had to be moved into the garage because she was too intoxicated to be moved into her own bedroom. The home is located on Deercrest Circle.

“Paula stated there is prior history of alcohol abuse with Skilyer,” a sheriff’s report says.

When Skilyer woke up Tuesday morning, she was extremely angry and yelling, the report says. She eventually fought with her entire family, injuring many of them, including her older sister, her aunt and her grandmother.

A sheriff’s report described an out-of-control teenager who was pulling hair, pushing her grandmother and cursing.

Skilyer Hicks When she pushed her 65-year-old grandmother, the victim fell backwards over a laundry basket and landed into a small chest of drawers breaking off the drawer knob. Harrington sustained red marks on her chest and a raised contusion on the left side of her back.

The older sister was finally able to restrain Skilyer and held her until she calmed down. “She let Skilyer get up and she went to her bedroom locking herself in,” a report says.

Paramedics arrived after deputies were called. “Skilyer appeared disoriented but was able to provide a breath sample which registered .126 on the AlcoSensor,” a report says. “Skilyer was not able to fully recollect what events had just taken place.”

Skilyer was charged with three counts of simple battery – family violence.

She has stayed in the Columbia County Jail for eight days, and she remained there on Tuesday, unable to make a $4,800 bond.

About Skilyer

SkilyerSkier Hicks, formerly of North Augusta, is a self-taught guitarist, singer, and songwriter. When she was 13 – about a year after the death of her father – an acoustic guitar she had received a few years before made its way back into her arms. That night, she began playing. Three days later, she began writing songs.

She has performed at nationally-recognized Eddie’s Attic in Atlanta, where she has opened for artists Lera Lynn, Barnaby Bright, Carrie Rodriquez, and Charlie Mars.

Her album “Brand New Day” was released in early 2013 and is now available on iTunes.

Skilyr Hicks’ audition for America’s Got Talent consisted of singing “Brand New Day,” an original song, while playing the guitar. Judges Howard Stern, Heidi Klum, Mel B, and Howie Mandell all voted yes, sending her to the Vegas round.

She was sorted into the “Female Singer” category in the Vegas Round, but her performance of “Second Chance,” an original song was not strong enough for the judges to send her to the Quarterfinals.
