Augusta Dad Strikes Young Son in Face, Sending Him to Hospital with Bruising on Inside of Ears

An Augusta boy required a trip to the hospital Friday after his father struck him in the face, authorities said.

Parker Gupton was accused of striking his 5-year-old son with an open hand across the face, causing bruising on each side of his face, according to an arrest warrant.

“(The boy) sustained bruising on the inside of each ear and lacerations on the forehead as well as the right cheek,” the warrant says.  The child was treated at Augusta University Medical Center for injuries.

The father also allegedly grabbed his daughter in a rough manner, leaving her with a laceration to the forehead, an arrest warrant says.

Gupton, 36, of Nighthawk Drive, Augusta, was charged with felony cruelty to children in the first degree and misdemeanor simple battery – family violence. A booking sheet lists hm as 6’1″ tall and 245 pounds.

The suspect remained in the Richmond County Detention Center on Monday morning without bond.
