Richmond County deputies locked up five young people on New Year’s Day for drug dealing after finding them with more than five pounds of marijuana, guns and cash.
When deputies entered the Darlington Drive home at 7 a.m. New Year’s Day, “the entire residence had burning marijuana smoke coming from every room,” according to Deputy Christopher Brown’s incident report.
Deputies came to the house after getting complaints of gunfire coming from the backyard. Brown found suspect Jhamari Glenn standing out back with a duffel bag and shell casings all around.
Glenn, 22, reeked of marijuana, a report says. The deputy searched him and found $2,074 cash in his pockets and about four pounds of marijuana in the bag.
The officer asked if there was anybody inside. Glenn didn’t answer, the report says, so Brown checked to make sure no one had been shot.
Inside, he found a marijuana haze and five suspects in various rooms, identified as Montrey Middleton, 21, Jania Curry, 23, Tavares Freeman Jr., 20, Raquez McLeod, 21, and Tavares Freeman Sr., 44.
With a search warrant, cops found two pistols on a kitchen counter as well as multiple marijuana cigarettes. There was an additional 1.7 pounds of pot wrapped in plastic bags in a rear bedroom. In another room, they found ammunition and a camouflage bullet-proof vest.
“Investigators note that no persons claimed ownership of any narcotics or firearms that were located at or inside of this residence,” the report says.
The senior Freeman was charged with an order to show cause, while the suspects were each charged with marijuana with intent to distribute and weapon possession.
Ironically, Glenn was already on probation for criminal trespassing and fleeing police in December 2019 when he was charged with dealing marijuana and weapon possession. The drug and weapon charges have lingered in the court for over a year, with Glenn demanding a jury trial in March 2020.
