An Augusta man has been charged with killing his brother and sister-in-law on Mystic Lane in Augusta.
Deputies responded at 2:37 p.m. Wednesday to the 3000 block of Mystic Lane in reference to a shooting. They located the bodies of an adult male and female who had been shot at least one time. They have been identified as William Horne, 49, and his wife, Carol Horne, 52.
Tony Horne, 46, of Augusta, was arrested at the scene and later booked into the Charles B. Webster Detention Center for the murders. He is William Horne’s brother. A motive is not clear.
The suspect has a long list of simple battery convictions in Richmond and Columbia counties, and he had an earlier arrest for aggravated assault that was ultimately dismissed.
According to Coroner Mark Bowen, his office responded at 2:39 a.m. Wednesday to a residence on the 3000 block of Mystic Lane in reference to a double homicide. Both were pronounced dead on the scene at 3:20 a.m. Wednesday. An autopsy has been scheduled.
The deaths mark the 46th and 47th homicides for Richmond County this year.
