A 25-year-old Augusta man had a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl that led to pregnancy and child birth, authorities said.
Mandrill Roberson began dating the girl two years ago when she was 12, according to a sheriff’s report. He told the girl and her mother that he was 17, according to the juvenile’s mother.
The couple started having sex four months after the relationship started. Last year, the girl became pregnant and told her mother and her older boyfriend about it.
“Roberson then broke up with her, saying that they needed a break from each other,” a sheriff’s report says.
The girl had the baby on March 8. After an investigation confirmed Roberson was actually 25, a warrant was issued for non-aggravated child molestation.
Just after midnight Friday, a deputy stopped Roberson on Washington Road and found him high from marijuana. His eyes were blood shot and glassy and he confessed to smoking weed “earlier before work,” a sheriff’s report says.
When he failed sobriety tests, a deputy tried to arrest him but Roberson took off running. So the officer deployed his Taser, struck the suspect in the back and then arrested him.
In addition to the molestation warrant, officers charged him with DUI, marijuana possession, obstruction, driving while license suspended, no insurance coverage and expired tag.
