An Augusta man stabbed his family’s pit bull in the face three times, leading to his arrest Saturday for aggravated cruelty to animals, authorities said.
George Sherman Collie, 40, is accused of stabbing the dog in the face and strangling the dog at their home on Barbara Road. The animal survived despite the injuries.
The dog’s owner called the cops after the stabbing, saying that she was arguing with the suspect when the pit bull responded with barking. Authorities say Collie picked up a sharp object and began stabbing the dog, causing three lacerations to the face.
Collie also allegedly strangled the dog, and the pit bull bit the suspect in the process. Eventually, the son of Collie and the victim separated the dog from the suspect.
Collie remained Sunday night in the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.
