-

An employee of an Augusta restaurant was shot in the heel Saturday from a stray bullet fired nearby at an apartment complex, authorities said.

Employees were sitting behind Belly Kitchen restaurant on break around 3 p.m. Saturday when they heard gunshots coming from the direction of Murphy Crossing Apartments.

The victim, identified only as an employee of the restaurant, was struck in the left heel, sheriff’s officials said.  The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment while investigators tried to find the shooter.

The restaurant is located at 2601 Deans Bridge Road in Augusta.
