Augusta Victim is Fatally Shot Outside Store on Wheeless Road

UPDATE WITH IDENTIFICATION FROM CORONER MARK BOWEN:

“The Coroner’s Office responded to Augusta University Medical Center in reference to a shooting death that occurred at 2302 Wheeless Road.  Anthony Lee Flowers, 33 years old of the 2300 Blk. Wheeless Road was taken to AUMC via EMS where he was pronounced dead at 1117 hrs.  He was shot at least one time. An autopsy has been scheduled.”

Richmond County authorities are investigating a shooting death that took place Tuesday morning at the Corner Store convenience store.

The male victim was shot at least once around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday and died from his injuries at Augusta University Medical Center. Authorities say the shooting took place at 2302 Wheeless Road in Augusta.

Witnesses say an older male got into an argument with the younger victim, and the victim slapped the suspect, who reacted by pulling a gun and firing it.

“This is an active investigation and any additional information will be released once it becomes available,” sheriff’s Sgt. Caleb Lee said in a press release.

The victim’s name has not been released, pending notification of family. Stay tuned…
