Augusta Woman, 41, is Shot to Death Dead on Sunday Morning

Authorities are investigating a shooting death that claimed the life of an Augusta woman.

Tanya Askew, 41, of the 700 block of East Chapman Street, was shot at least one time at Walker and Second streets and was pronounced dead on the scene at 9:50 a.m. Sunday, Coroner Mark Bowen said. Her body was sent to the GBI for an autopsy.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation is just starting and they are unable to release information on suspects or a possible motive. Here is what Sgt. William McCarthy said:

“On Sunday, December 13, at 9:52 am. Richmond County Deputies responded to the area of 2nd Street and Walker Street in reference to a suspicious situation. Upon their arrival they located a deceased victim who had been shot at least one time. Members of the R.S.C.O. Criminal Investigative Division as well as our Crime Scene Investigators have responded to the scene and are in the early stages of the investigation.”
