Augusta Woman Fatally Shot in Friday Night Murder

An Augusta woman was found with a fatal gunshot wound early Saturday on Dan Bowles Road in the Aragon Park community, authorities said.

Monique Hawes, 53, was found lying in the roadway with at least one gunshot wound on the 200 block of Dan Bowles Road. The street is about six miles from where she lives on Madrid Drive.

Bowles was pronounced dead on the scene at 2:45 a.m Saturday. An autopsy has been scheduled.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has not released any details on the homicide or possible suspects in the killing.

Hawes was being remembered online by those who loved her.

Lavonya Brown said, “Y’all my heart is torn into pieces my big Sister the only big sister I ever had. Some coward took her life. Monique Hawes, what am I supposed to do? I Love you so much Rip Sister Y’all please my Keep The Hawes N Burns Family in Prayers please.”
