Augusta Woman Killed After Chase Suspect Rams Into Her Vehicle on Gordon Highway

-

An Augusta woman was killed Wednesday night when her vehicle was struck by a suspect involved in a rush-hour chase with a Richmond County deputy.

Ashley Irvin, 33, was driving on Thomas Lane at Gordon Highway about 5:07 p.m. when her vehicle was struck by a vehicle being pursued westbound on Gordon Highway, according to Coroner Mark Bowen. The victim was rushed to Augusta University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 6:28 p.m. Wednesday.

According to sheriff’s Lt. Kimberly Lee, a deputy attempted to stop the driver of a blue Nissan Rouge for a traffic violation on Milledgeville Road and Tubman Home Road. During the pursuit, the driver struck two different vehicles at different locations.

Both innocent drivers were taken to the hospital, but Irvin died.  The suspect was taken into custody and taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries. The sex of the suspect and their condition were not released.

Georgia State Patrol was called and requested to investigate this incident, Lt. Lee said.
