CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Sneaky Couple Wanted for Stealing Augusta Mom’s iPhone at Grocery Store

-

A man and woman are being sought for allegedly stealing an Augusta mother’s iPhone 13 Pro Max when she accidentally left it at a local grocery store.

Zenovia Foots, 24, and Troy Wesby Jr., 30, are wanted for theft of lost or mislaid property in the June 27 incident at IGA on Deans Bridge Road.

The victim said she had been checking out and had purchased her groceries. She set her $1,800 phone down beside her at the register when she paid for her groceries. In her rush to get her groceries and tend to her child, she left her phone at the register.

“When she realized she had left her phone and returned to the register the phone had been stolen,” a sheriff’s report says.

Surveillance video showed what happened: “The camera footage showed (the mother) place her phone on the counter and pay for her groceries. She then gathers her groceries and leaves the store with her child. The male and female suspects watch her leave and proceed to the check out counter. The female suspect appears to notice the phone on the counter. She speaks to the male subject and motions with her hand in the direction of the phone.

“The male suspect looks at the phone and then looks in the direction of where the victim had walked out of camera view. The female suspect reaches toward the phone but the male suspect steps in front of her and grabs the phone. The male suspect stuck the phone in his pocket and motioned for the female suspect to move back. The male suspect then pays for the groceries using cash and both suspects walk toward the store exit and out of camera view. While exiting the store both suspects appeared nervous and appeared to be scanning the area in case the woman returned for her phone.”

Foots is known to frequent the area of Florence Street. Wesby Jr. is known to frequent the area of Florence Street.
