CONFIRMED! Remains Found in Burke County are Missing Augusta Man who was Likely Murdered!

Officials in Burke and Richmond counties are working jointly on a homicide case after remains found in 2019 were identified as a missing Augusta man.

Here is a press release from BCSO Capt. Randall Norman:

On 01/11/2022 at approximately 1900 hours, Investigators with the Burke County Sheriff’s Office received information regarding the unidentified human remains that were located and recovered in Briar Creek within the 4700 block of Story Mill Road in August of 2019. Investigators received information from the Center of Human Identification on a DNA match identifying a missing person from Augusta, GA.

The victim has been identified as Tyrone Timothy Hughes, 36 years of age of the 3700 block of Massoit Drive Augusta, GA. Hughes was reported missing through the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office by family members on 01/04/2019. Hughes had not been seen since 12/09/2018 by family or friends. This case is still in the initial stage of the investigation and more information will be released when available.

On 01/12/2022, Investigators with the Burke County Sheriff’s Office and the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office were able to the proper notifications to Hughes’ family members. Investigators from both agencies are working this case as a Homicide and details are limited at this time.
