-

An Aiken County woman was killed Thursday night in a shooting allegedly committed by her husband, authorities say.

Edward Vaughn II, 38, of Aiken is being held in the Aiken County Jail on charges of murder. His wife, 36-year-old Brana Vaughn, was pronounced dead at her home on Cooper Drive at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday, Coroner Tim Carlton said in a press release.

“When deputies arrived on scene, the witness informed them that the suspect … shot the victim after being involved in a verbal argument,” sheriff’s Capt. Eric Abdullah said in a press release. “Deputies found the victim in the kitchen of the residence suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Emergency Medical Personnel responding to the scene and attempted life saving measures. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene.”

Authorities say “minor children” were present in the home at the time of the shooting but were not injured.
