Couple Dead After Shootings in Aiken County; Murder-Suicide is Possible After Domestic Dispute

An Aiken County man and woman are dead after shootings in Salley on Sunday night, authorities said.

Here is the press release from Coroner Darryl Ables:

“Last night, July 5th at 08:50 PM the Aiken County Coroner’s Office was called to two homes on Maple St., Salley regarding a shooting incident involving fatalities. 

Thembi Chalmers, 43 years old who reside at 227 Maple St. was pronounced dead in the home from a gunshot wound. 

The suspect, Ms. Chalmers boyfriend, who reside in the home walked to 210 Maple St. where he took his life. 

A domestic dispute between the two is believed to have lead up to the shooting. 

Ms. Chalmers will be autopsied in Newberry, toxicology specimens are pending on the suspect. …

The suspect was identified as Levi Bonnett, 45 years old of 227 Maple St., Salley.”
