A drunk driver led cops on a short chase Tuesday that ended on the grounds of the Augusta National Golf Club, her second DUI arrest in two months!
Julie Dicks, 35, was first spotted by officers around 6 p.m. traveling in the center lane on Washington Road, trying to bypass golf traffic. A deputy spotted her move and turned on his emergency lights and sirens. But Dicks quickly turned into the golf club’s Gate 5 off Washington Road.
Dicks encountered a dead end shortly after entering the golf club’s property, where the Masters Tournament’s practice rounds were wrapping up. She was arrested without further incident and taken to jail for DUI.
“At no point during this event were patrons or members of the public placed at risk,” a RCSO spokesperson said. “The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office works in close partnership with Augusta National Security to ensure the safety of all patrons during the Masters Tournament.”
This was Dick’s second DUI arrest in two months, with the previous one on Feb. 17 when she was charged with DUI, reckless driving and failure to maintain lane. A booking sheet says she was also charged with fleeing police, and she was later released on bond in that earlier case. She has a listed address of 1800 block of Foromosa Drive, which is 9 miles from Augusta National Golf Club.
Dicks has a long list of traffic offenses over the years, including a 2016 DUI arrest in Richmond County that led to probation. Other offenses include speeding, no license on person, failure to wear seat belt and speeding in a school zone.
In an unrelated arrest, a South Carolina man was busted for disorderly conduct outside the grounds of Augusta National Golf Club. Authorities say 61-year-old Jeffery Shumate of Greenville, S.C., was intoxicated at 12:43 p.m. Tuesday when he was seen urinating in public at 2623 Washington Road near the course. He spent the rest of the day in jail.
Both Shumate and Dicks remained Tuesday night at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center. Shumate had a $285 bond.
