Dunkin’ Donuts Employee Gets Scammed by Caller in Martinez

-

An employee of a Martinez Dunkin’ Donuts was scammed by someone last Wednesday who called the business.

According to a sheriff’s report, a man called the store and told the employee he was a police officer and was investigating another Dunkin’ worker. He told the employee that he needed her to go into the store office and take as much cash as she could to buy gift cards.

“She took some cash that was in a bag in the store office and went to Walgreens where she bought two gift cards,” the report says. “(She) put $260 on the first card and $235 on the second card.”

The man told the employee to read him the codes off of the gift cards and then flush them down the toilet. After she flushed the cards down the toilet, she immediately hung up the phone and called her manager.

The manager called the sheriff’s office.
