Elderly Augusta Couple Identified in Murder-Suicide in National Hills Neighborhood

-

Richmond County authorities are investigating a murder-suicide of an elderly couple in the National Hills neighborhood that was discovered Tuesday morning.

Officers were dispatched to the 2600 block of Springwood Drive around 11:48 a.m. Tuesday in references to two deceased people, identified by authorities as a white married couple named Christopher Crowder, 77, and Juanita Crowder, 72.

Both were shot at least one time and pronounced dead on the scene. Each had sustained one gunshot wound to the head in a case called a murder-suicide. Authorities later confirmed that the evidence shows Mrs. Crawford was the victim.

Coroner Mark Bowen said the couple was declared dead at 11:55 a.m. Tuesday. He said autopsies have been scheduled.

The investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time, the sheriff’s office said.
