-

An elderly Augusta woman died Saturday night after being struck by a vehicle on Dean’s Bridge Road, authorities said.

Minnie Atwell, 70, of the 2600 block of Drayton Drive, was pronounced dead on the scene at 6:28 p.m. Saturday, Coroner Mark Bowen said.

Richmond County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Saturday night to 3300 block of Dean’s Bridge Road in reference to an accident involving a pedestrian and a vehicle. They discovered that a vehicle traveling in the southbound lanes of Dean’s Bridge Road struck the pedestrian in the roadway.

An arrest or identification on the driver was not mentioned by authorities. “This investigation is in its early stages and no further information is available at this time,” a RCSO press release says.
