Evans High Student Brings Loaded BB Gun & Meth to School

Dennis AtchleyA student at Evans High School brought a loaded BB gun and drugs to school last Thursday, authorities say.

While he was being arrested, 17-year-old Dennis Atchley resisted arrest and fought with sheriff’s deputy Chris Burnett in a violent struggle that caused the officer to suffer a broken ankle. He is doing fine and will be out of work while recovering, authorities said.

According to a sheriff’s report, the teen was found in possession of a Umarez 40-X-P BB gun, a gram of meth worth $100 and a glass smoking device.

Atchley, 17, of Chinaberry Court, Martinez, was charged with drug possession, weapon on school property and felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer.

He was taken from school to the Columbia County Detention Center.
