An Evans High teacher was arrested Wednesday on accusations of slapping two female students on the buttocks.
Gregory Brooks, 63, was charged with two felony counts of improper sexual contact by a person of trust. The girls are ages 14 and 15.
The investigation began last Thursday when a female student stepped forward and made written allegations that Brooks had touched her inappropriately in school on Oct. 26.
“While she and some of her friends were in Mr. Brooks’ class,” the report says, “one of the kids wanted a piece of candy. … She acted like she was going for the drawer as a joke and when she did, Mr. Brooks slapped her butt. … (She) also stated Mr. Brooks has done it to others as well as make inappropriate jokes.”
WGAC’s Austin Rhodes has reported that the teacher resigned after the allegations were made. Brooks did not offer any statement or denial, invoking his right to remain silent, sheriff’s Maj. Steve Morris said.
After an investigation, authorities substantiated at least one other butt-slapping incident with a female student that occurred on Sept. 24, according to arrest warrants.
The warrants explain the charge: “The accused did commit the offense of Improper Sexual Conduct by Person of Trust in the 2nd degree when the accused being a person in a position of trust engages in sexual contact, excluding sexually explicit conduct, with a minor for whom he or she has entered into an agreement entrusting him or her with the responsibility of education and supervision of such minor.”
Bond was set at $10,200.
