Evans Mom Accidentally Shoots 13-Year-Old Son While Firing at Husband: Report

-

During an argument Friday, an Evans mother fired a gun at her husband and accidentally shot her 13-year-old son at the same time.

Both victims survived, but the teen suffered a gunshot wound to the right shoulder and the woman’s husband was shot in the abdomen, according to arrest warrants.

Laquitta Thomas, 43, of Zola Drive, Evans, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, weapon possession and cruelty to children in the first degree. The gun was listed as a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield .380-caliber semi-automatic pistol.

The incident happened Friday night at a business on the 2500 block of Peach Orchard Road in Augusta, where Thomas was arguing with her husband. During an altercation, Thomas shot her husband in the abdomen. The gunfire reportedly went through the husband and struck her son.

Both victims were rushed to Augusta University Medical Center and were listed in stable condition at the time arrest warrants were taken out.

Thomas remained in the Richmond County Detention Center on Tuesday afternoon without bond.
