FIRST LOOK: Aiken Teen, 18, is Fatally Shot by Someone While Inside Car

-

Aiken teenager Joseph J. Copeland was fatally shot just after midnight Sunday while inside a vehicle near an apartment complex on Barnwell Avenue, authorities said.

The 18-year-old victim was rushed to Aiken Regional Medical Centers by another teenager, but he was pronounced dead soon after, Coroner Darryl Ables said in a press release.

“The shooting occurred at 12:18 a.m. near an apartment complex on Barnwell Avenue at Kershaw Street. The two teenagers were reportedly seated inside a vehicle when unknown subjects started shooting into the vehicle striking the victim,” Ables said.

The Aiken Department of Public Safety is continuing with the investigation. Police have not released any information on suspects or a motive.

Copeland is already being remembered on social media. Ishia Hammond said, “R.I.P to my brother Joseph Jamar Copeland I love you dude 😭💔gone too soon.” J.T. Smith said, “Rest up big dawg, all love from this way.”
