FIRST LOOK: Aiken Teen Killed After Crossing Center Line & Hitting Truck Head-On


An Aiken teenager was killed Tuesday afternoon after crossing the center line on Highway 78 and hitting a truck, authorities said.

ShaJira Betties, 17, was pronounced dead on the scene from blunt force injuries, according to Coroner Darryl Ables.

The wreck happened at 1:46 p.m. Tuesday on Highway 78 at Cedar Branch Road in Windsor. ShaJira was restrained behind the wheel of a 2013 Nissan Altima when she crossed the centerline and hit an eastbound truck head-on.

The driver of the truck was not injured. Toxicology analysis are pending. The S.C. Highway Patrol is continuing with the investigation, Ables said.
