A former special-needs student has been accused of sexually accosting a classmate last year in a bathroom at Butler High School.
Mary Faison, 20, was indicted by the Richmond County grand jury for aggravated sexual battery and sexual battery. She was arrested on the grand jury warrants on Dec. 23 and she remained in jail on Thursday without bond.
A Board of Education incident report was not accessible on Thursday since the school board offices are closed, but authorities say the victim was 18.
Both Faison and the victim were special needs students at the school on May 22, 2019, when Faison allegedly accosted the girl sexually in the bathroom, leaving visible marks. It reportedly happened during graduation practice when Faison pulled the victim into the bathroom and held her hand over the victim’s mouth during the crime.
The reason for the delay in indictment was because DNA testing was involved. And while Faison is considered a special-needs student, she was deemed to be competent and an adult who knows right from wrong, authorities said.
