A Grovetown man who has been working at WFXG-TV was locked up Friday on allegations that he solicited child porn online while posing as a young female.
Alejandro Booher, 23, of Evans, was charged on eight indictments for violation of the Child Exploitation and Prevention Act. A mugshot was not immediately available.
According to Grovetown Police Chief Jamey Kitchens, Booher was utilizing the “Kik” app in January in an attempt to obtain child porn, also known as child sexual abuse material. Officers later found out that Booher was “portraying himself to be a young female in online chat forums, while also soliciting other males” for child porn.
“During several of these chats, Mr. Booher made specific requests for videos containing children, to include infants,” Chief Kitchens wrote in a press release.
On Thursday, Grovetown’s Capt. William Loomer presented testimony to the Columbia County Grand Jury, who subsequently indicted Booher on eight counts of violation of the Child Exploitation and Prevention Act.
During the investigation Mr. Booher moved from Cannock Street in Grovetown to Nancelon Circle in Evans, police said. On Friday, Booher was taken into custody at his residence and transported to the Columbia County Detention Center. He remains there without bond.
“We are proud to be partnered with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation through the ICAC Task Force and remain committed to identifying and removing from our communities those who prey on our most precious and vulnerable,” Chief Kitchens said in a press release.
Authorities have confirmed that Booher was employed by the local TV station, Fox 54. A LinkedIn page for the suspect identified his title as “news specialist.”
