Gang Fight in Augusta Jail Leaves Teen with Multiple Stab Wounds

-

A fight between two rival gangs at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center on Thursday resulted in a teenage murder suspect being hospitalized with multiple stab wounds, and another inmate sustaining less severe injuries, authorities said.

Members of the LOE gang attacked Trap Money gang member Johndon Sheppard, leaving the 18-year-old inmate bloodied in the G-pod with stab wounds to his arm, shoulder, neck, abdomen and ribcage. Rival gang member Kelli Ware, 18, was stabbed in the left shoulder and received treatment at the jail.

The brawl, involving eight inmates—four from each gang—led to a jail lockdown and two days of news reports without specific details from the sheriff’s office about the incident or the inmates involved.

But new arrest warrants describe a chaotic morning when deputy jailers received a radio call about a large fight and stabbing. Upon entering the G-pod around 10 a.m. Thursday, they found Sheppard bleeding from multiple areas. Inmates were ordered to return to their cells, and Sheppard was escorted to the medical area before being rushed to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Surveillance video showed LOE members Antwon Rogers, Lawrence Stephens, Keeli Ware, and Dashan Johnson holding shanks and attacking Sheppard, cornering him, and stabbing him several times. Two shanks were later found in a cell toilet.

Authorities indicate that the more seriously injured victim, Sheppard, is actively involved with Trap Money (also known as TRVP MONEYY). Jail footage shows Sheppard and his fellow gang members—Arquette Jones, Latravious Green, and Dmond Jackson—stabbing LOE member Keeli Ware. A shank was later discovered under a mattress in their cell.

All eight individuals involved, including Johndon Sheppard, are facing new charges of aggravated assault, possession of a dangerous weapon by an inmate, and unlawful street gang activity.

Many of the suspects have violent histories and are known for causing trouble in the jail. Some are incarcerated for violent crimes committed in Augusta. Here’s a brief overview of their backgrounds:
