Gas Station Argument Between Women Turns Deadly in Augusta

-

An Augusta woman was fatally shot Monday night following an argument with another woman in the parking lot of Circle K on Walton Way, authorities said.

Yelena Buckner, 33, of Augusta, is charged with murder and weapon possession in the death of 52-year-old Jenefer Herron.  It happened around 10:50 p.m. Monday at the gas station at 1739 Walton Way after both customers had left the store.

“The shooting occurred after the victim and suspect became involved in an argument in the parking lot,” sheriff’s Sgt. William McCarty said.

Herron was rushed to Augusta University Medical Center, where she died from her injuries.

Buckner drove away in a gray SUV, but she was captured later and taken in for questioning before being charged. Her current mugshot was not immediately available.

This marks Richmond County’s 11th homicide, and fourth over the last week.
