Grovetown High School Student Brings Gun to School, Posts Video Online

-

A Grovetown High student who posted a video on social media holding a gun inside the school was arrested Thursday, authorities said.

Prince Zahur Malik Nixon, 18, was charged with possession of a weapon in a school safety zone.

The teen allegedly brought the 9mm Smith & Weston to school on Wednesday during school hours, according to an arrest warrant.

Principal Andrew Young told parents that administrators were alerted to a video posted to social media in which a student was seen holding a firearm. School staff immediately contacted Columbia County School District Police.

“Upon further investigation, the video is believed to have been taken in the bathroom at the school,” the principal said. “The student was located off campus and arrested. The student will also be held accountable according to the code of conduct.”

Young thanked those who immediately reported the post to the proper authorities to investigate.

“We take threats of any nature extremely seriously and will investigate fully. If you see something, say something,” he said. “Working together, we can continue to provide a safe, positive environment for students and staff.”

Nixon was being held Thursday in the Columbia County Detention Center under a $5,100 bond.
