A Grovetown High School student was arrested last week on charges that he had sex with a 14-year-old classmate in the woods surrounding the school.
Curtis Xavier Sanders, 18, was charged last Tuesday on warrants for with statutory rape and public indecency.
The alleged sex act occurred just after school ended Nov. 19 in a wooded area on the school property, according to authorities. The girl told her adopted mother that she had been raped, and the incident was reported over a week later. But the resulting charge does not accuse Sanders of forcibly raping her.
The public indecency charge says that Sanders “performed an act of sexual intercourse in the wooded area near Grovetown High School which made his act exposed to passersby,” according to an arrest warrant. A sheriff’s report names a 15-year-old girl who attends the high school as a witness.
Sanders has been bonded out of jail since his arrest last week.
