Quadelya Bennings, 35, Simple battery A Grovetown woman was arrested for simple battery Saturday after assaulting her husband over divorce papers.

Quadelya Bennings was apparently upset that her husband had served divorce papers at her place of business on Friday, according to a sheriff’s report. She returned home early Saturday to their Erika Lane residence and confronted him.

“Mrs. Bennings hit him with a closed fist to the left side of his face, causing swelling under his left eye,” the sheriff’s report says.

The suspect denied hitting her husband, telling deputies that it was just a verbal argument. But deputies saw the man’s swollen eye and arrested Mrs. Bennings for simple battery under the Family Violence act.

The couple had been married for about 8 years.  According to online records, the couple applied for a marriage license in November 2008.
