Gun Purchase Goes South: Augusta Teens Charged with Murder in 3 A.M. Shooting Death of Aiken Man

-

Two local teens who were shot are being charged with murder in connection with the middle-of-the-night shooting death of an Aiken man.

The victim, Marquan Patten (AKA: Marquan Doyle)

Marqwez Warney, 17 (pictured), and Lewis Wigfall, 16, have been both charged with murder in connection with Tuesday morning’s death of 23-year-old Marquan Patten, who is also known as Marquan Doyle, according to a RCSO press release. More arrests are possible.

The shootings started during a gun sale that went wrong, authorities said.

Patten was located in a vehicle on Service Drive just off Milledge Road in Augusta and was pronounced dead at 3:36 a.m. Tuesday at the scene. Further investigation revealed the two teen suspects were shot during this incident, but only Warney sought treatment.

Wigfall will be held at the Regional Youth Detention Center. Both teens’ mugshots were not released, but Warney’s photo above is from a June 2020 arrest for felony obstruction.

Warney is the same suspect who was charged last month on two counts of felony obstruction of an officer. Those charges stemmed from an incident in January.
