A Hephzibah mother got a heart-breaking text from her 13-year-old daughter this month that led to an older teen’s arrest for felony sex charges.
“Mom, I think I messed up,” the girl texted. “I had someone come over and had sex with them. I may be pregnant and I am having symptoms of pregnancy.”
Sadly, the girl informed her mother that she was bleeding and might be having a miscarriage, according to a sheriff’s report.
The texts continued, “I don’t want you to hate me. I know I am young and shouldn’t have been doing what I have done.”
The girl ended up at Augusta University Medical Center on Jan. 15, where hospital officials reported the sexual assault of the girl.
When officers responded, the girl confessed to having sex with 17-year-old Javier Ballard on two occasions in November. In one case, the girl said she had sex with Ballard when her mother had left the house to take her son to a football game, the report says.
An investigation led to Ballard’s arrest Tuesday for felony statutory rape (no force) and felony sexual exploitation of children. The second charge accuses Ballard of using his cell phone to record his sex acts on the girl, which included oral sex, a warrant says.
Ballard, of the 1900 block of Kristi Way, remained in jail on Wednesday night under $44,400 bond.
The sheriff’s report does not reveal what became of the pregnancy.
